Revolution over evolution... err duh!

Post the economic reform roundtable, or "err..." our Treasurer claimed that consensus was reached on 10 key priorities, including "modernising government services, turbocharging housing supply and making artificial intelligence a national focus".

He also stated "the hard work begins now"... which must have everyone wondering what the fuck he's been doing these past three years.

Apparently two of the three main groups represented were business leaders and union chiefs, so any claim of consensus on what changes are required should be consumed with a large pinch of salt. Bureaucrats were the third who's role, aside from presumably taking meeting minutes, will be largely to implement said changes, and as the very antithesis of productivity, you don't have to be Einstein to identify the gaping flaw in that plan... but to quote the man himself, "we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them."

With the economy requiring fundamental sweeping changes, the opaqueness of err's priorities does not instill confidence, especially when lead by institutions which are world class when it comes to making everything excessively complicated. "Umbrella makers need it to rain" so good luck with modernising public services.

No, ten priorities is far too many. If the crayon brigade are to stand any chance of success, we need to narrow the focus and keep the objectives and messaging clear, cohesive and simple. Radical tax reform must be the overwhelming priority, and income tax must be the first casualty, if for no other reason, and there are plenty, then if the most aggressive predictions about AI are to be believed there will soon be a much larger, and ever growing, unemployment rate and consequently... a corresponding budget gap.

Connecting Dots, pivoting away from income tax will also be central to allowing AI to become the stated national focus we... err... want.

Be brave Jim. Go hard...
