Undoubtedly carefully choreographed and skillfully staged by design to depict a new era of collaboration and change with the great visionary himself leading from the front, and floor as is appropriate from a "man of the people". What a cruel joke...

History reveals it was little more than another example, albeit especially ostentatious, of the ongoing political pantomime, where actions rarely match rhetoric, and the hopes of a nation are dashed on the figuratively formidable rocks of self-gratification and stubbornly robust incompetence.

Whilst, I imagine quite deliberately so, not as grandiose in nature as the two whole days dedicated to solving the nations problems back in 2008 our Treasurers very own summit the "Economic Reform Roundtable" is no less an insult to our collective intelligence.

Suggesting this three day charade from a Government already in its fourth year of office is somehow required to identify and achieve "consensus" on economic priorities and a new path from the mire of generational short-term factional populism is fanciful.

The optimist in me retains a faint hope this is merely the opening salvo of an assault on enduring systemic issues, but the cynic is resigned to a continual procession of photo opportunities for the band-aid hand outs and tinkering on the fringe of meaningful change that we've become accustomed to.
